Laurence was one of my oldest and best friends, having met at school when we were seven. We grew up together and stayed close friends all throughout our teens and twenties, and enjoyed many adventures together. In 2021 I was also honoured to be one of his groomsmaids at his wedding to the wonderful Kit.
Sadly, Laurence was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in 2019. He fought an incredible fight, but passed away in June last year aged 31.
In April, a few months before he passed away, we went to Brighton with Laurence to watch his husband, Kit, run the Brighton Marathon for Bowel Cancer UK. Three of his best friends and I thought it would therefore be fitting to run the Brighton Marathon this year in Laurence's honour, to try and raise money for this great charity. Laurence worked for charities most of his adult life, and raising money for good causes was really important to him. He would be very proud of the effort and training that we have put into this race, and I am sure he would also find it quite amusing given that none of us have much running experience! The thought of Laurence being equally amused and proud of us has made the long, early morning, below-freezing runs worth it.
We would be so grateful for your support for this important cause, no matter how big or small.
